Bio2x

Better for you business and for the planet

We understand!

As a business you are faced with your own trilemma of rising energy costs, a need to decrease your greenhouse gas emissions and concerns over your and your customers supply chain.

We are living in a period of heightened complexity, uncertainty and risk. Navigating this to ensure that not only are you doing the right thing for the planet, but also your bottom line is challenging.

That is where we come in. We don't offer one option and then try and make it fit everything. Instead we work with you to understand your needs and then, and only then, which solution is better for you. From biofuel generators to hydrogen and everything in between. We can help.

BIOFUELS

Biofuels aren't just about crops. There are many other fuel pathways that can be considered bio..

Stationary generators are used in every walk of life and are utterly ubiquitous. They are also, correctly, the focus of attention from policy makers in the quest to reach net zero emissions.

The next generation of generators, Stage V, has an emissions profile lower than older types, and has to be compatible with a range of renewable and bio-fuels to achieve this. But they are not yet the norm.

We are working with a generator supplier and fuel suppliers to bring to market a solution which not only reduces costs but also emissions.

The generators are  assembled in the UK, reducing import risks, and the fuel is not crop based so there are no concerns over food v's fuel.

If you are looking for a drop in solution for your current energy portfolio, whether you are on or off-grid, this might be the one for you.

Pros: Drop in solution, like for like but reduced costs and reduced emissions.

Cons: Hefty CAPEX and, depending on scale, long(ish) lead time item.

WIND AND SOLAR

A demand supercycle and repowering makes onshore renewables a heady combination!

The onshore renewable energy industry is in a demand supercycle. With government targets requiring double digit growth per annum and repowering kicking in, for both onshore wind and solar, it has never been a better time to explore the business opportunities afforded by renewable energy installation and production.

Lead times and costs remain an issue, especially at the minute, but we are working with the top installers in the UK to ensure that your project gets rapid attention and access to cost savings.

---

Pros: The project finance community understands renewables. With benchmarks and known risk portfolio securing off-book finance for your project is fairly straightforward.

Cons: End of life has to be included in any plans so don't just think about the start. Plan for the end. Too many projects and developers are ignoring this and this will damage your project longer term.

ENERGY STORAGE

Energy storage, a simple idea but a complex solution.

Right now in 2023 all forms of energy storage, behind and in-front of the meter are in sharp focus. Although this attention is long overdue it is also compounded with a lack of understanding of the challenges faced in deploying energy storage assets.  In short this is not a rapid, cheap option.

We have developed projects for grid tied renewable plants, including at repowering sites, and this hands on, practical, experience means we can say with confidence that this is not for everywhere or everyone.

For energy storage projects we work directly with big battery providers and electrolyser companies to provide grid balancing solutions for our clients.

Pros: It can make a lot of sense and positively impact your bottom line.

Cons: It will take time and turns your project into a much more complex opportunity.

HYDROGEN

Hydrogen from renewable energy could be the next big thing but right now it is for developers who will accept significant risk.

It can come across that producing hydrogen from renewable energy is as simple as popping an electrolyser underneath a wind turbine and job done.

It isn't. It is doable but it isn't for the faint hearted, or those needing to see a short term de-risked return. We get asked a lot about hydrogen and we always say the same thing - yes we can but are you sure your business plan needs it?

If the answer is yes and the client understands the attendant risks we have access to world experts in the area and between us we can advise on the suitability of the solution for your needs and deploy the solution you need.

---

Pros: If it works there will be a lot of attention on your project

Cons: If it doesn't work there will be a lot attention on your project.
